How real are your hallucinations?

Postby crystalrose133 » Tue Nov 06, 2012 9:28 pm

I'm new here and I've been diagnosed as schizophrenic for a few months, but in that time it has progressed alot. How real are other's visions? For me, it varies. Sometimes, everything is just a shadow, but other times, they're hard to dismiss as a hallucination. So please help me understand. Does everyone hallucinate in detail, or is it usually shadows and such?

Mine are extremely real. I have tactile, olfactory, auditory and visual hallucinations. It's kinda scary when I feel the "people" I visually hallucinate put their arms around me etc, and I can strongly smell stuff like burning or sick when nobody else around me can. They just seem exactly the same as real people, and it's annoying that I feel I can build relationships with them. I've never had experience of shadows etc.

I've had hallucinations where I've walked into my bedroom and it was filled with snakes and tarantulas and I used to freak out and cry so much that I cried myself to sleep, when I woke up, they were all gone. That has happened a few times, but it hasn't happened in about a year now. It's crazy.

Once I was with my parents driving and I saw a young girl sitting next to me, she reminded me of my favorite character in this movie I saw, she was life sized but not quite solid, not transparent but sort of translucent or shimmery,..she was so sweet and talked to me and my mom noticed I was talking to thin air...I did not know she was a hallucination I thought she was real, but my mom told me there was nobody sitting next to me

It's things like this that make me think that schizophrenics are more like psychic. Have you ever spoken to a deceased family member?

My symptoms were always distortions of real perceptual phenomenon, although in some psychedelic experiences I did have perceptions of things that were as real as anything else, but clearly weren't there... I'd say it varies from individual to individual.

Yeah, mine are incredibly real and certainly appear to be backed up by factual real-world evidence.

I don't really see things that aren't there very often...every now and then at night I might think I see a deer by the side of the road from a distance but instead it's a mailbox...or things of that nature, but I think that's pretty normal.

Mostly I have these weird telepathic conversations with people, and they appear to be responding, but it must be a delusion because they always respond in terms that I can understand.

If it wasn't a delusion then they would use words and languages that I couldn't understand sometimes, or phrases that I wouldn't normally use. Although a few times I have been able to catch them trying to make me think that I was thinking something that I knew was not in my line of thinking whatsoever.

Also very often I will be thinking of a word and at the exact moment I'm thinking it, I will hear it on TV or someone will say it or I will see it on a billboard or something...it's way too often to just be coincidence. Sometimes it's even whole phrases which is even more mathematically unlikely to be a coincidence...

I honestly believe some people that are labeled schizo might just in fact be very open to the spirit world, and what they're "hearing" might not be actual voices, but spirits.

I don't believe in ghosts besides the Holy Ghost, and I don't talk to the dead or anything like that but I do think there are good and bad spirits in the world and in people.

Anyway, seems so real to me and I'd really love to go into further detail but the TV is on so it's hard for me to fully concentrate. :)

dang!! i know how that feels with all that telepathy bull... my main delusion is telepathy or so called thought insertion, and i can have full out conversations if i want to... and the things that people say are so consistent even through years and months before...

its insane... but i just have this sense of healing if i choose to think that i'm crazy... thanks a lot for this post flak it made me realize that i'd sometimes rather think i'm crazy and that belief or disbelief in my delusions is actually a matter of choice... i feel like i've recovered now.. since last week thursday... been hearing voices non-stop all bull in my head been driving me mad...

feel like i'm ready to look at life differently with a freedom of choice, i guess whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger...
i was bi-winning too... until my pdoc increase my meds... then i was bi-polar

nobody wants to believe they are insane, everybody wants to believe they are special... so i am normal... which makes me insane

My only hallucinations are "feel" and "smell".

I very often feel water drops on both of my legs, not always in the same spot. I feel most the time and my legs are dry. This one is very, very real.

I smell flowers and fire a lot. I'm always checking to see if my apartment is on fire or there is a fire somewhere. Flowers, it's very rare they are around me but I'm figuring that one could be because there are flowers somewhere close or being breezed through the air.

The fire one is very, very real - I'm constantly worried.

I've heard voices only a few times (more than a few), but it was when I was on the wrong medication and going through being exploited by my Psychologist so that one I think had to do with that.

The water on the legs is the strongest, then the fire.

I have not been diagnosed with anything but I have had a few things happen to me that were scary. One time I was sitting on my couch and it looked like someone was peeling my roof back, I could see the sky! Another time I saw my daughter's toy pull dog go across the floor by itself then I thought in my head well it is not like it turned its head and looked at me.....it just then turned its head and looked at me. Another time I opened my bedroom door to use the bathroom and there was a translucent shimmery looking scary girl with long hair right in my face practically....i closed the door and was so scared. These things all happened in different houses. It has been a very long time since I have seen anything.....
