When I was younger I was indifferent to animals. I think upbringing has a lot to do with it, for example I can scale, skin, decapitate and otherwise clean a fish no problem because I've done it a few times. I've literally cleaned a fish, breaded, and fried it all in one go... so my mind I think completely understands how fish can be food. I wouldn't ever want to be cruel to such a thing though. I want to end the animals life as swiftly and cleanly as possible, no malice, just I understand that they can be food.
Dogs/cats I get along with great. I like them way better than people. I have never encountered a dog that I couldn't get along with, even half-wolf hybrids I met got along with me. They were even nervous at first, but I think my general disposition they get that I'm harmless and absolutely not prey. Cats are way more fickle, so most like me, but cats also take a lot more time to get used to someone usually. Took me a year to get my roommates cat where she likes me, and now I think I'm her second favorite person. She loves my room because it has great hangout spots (under the bed, on top of the bookshelf, etc).
Like I said, I've been around hybrid wolf/dogs. Also smaller brown bears, at a reasonable distance. Even some deer. I do pretty good. I'm not like jumping out there to feed animals, but momma bear isn't seeing me as a threat nor prey and random deer get that I'm around, take care of some plants, and I'm pretty chill. I think they get that I don't have a predator response or a fear response, I don't spook easy, and everything I do at a slow pace. Obviously moose and real bear country bears (a grizzly or whatever) are way more capable of ######6 up my day and I've never had to deal with them... and skunks I'm actually concerned with cause that just sucks. Pack coyotes are around sometimes or raccoons, but those are more like vermin. I don't want to deal with them, they don't want to deal with me. They want to kill ducks and chickens if they can, and ###$ them for that.
On that note well kept chickens (I don't have any) seem pretty chill as pets too. They stink, require a little work and room, but they can be pretty acclimated to living with people. I've never messed with pigs or met "nice" pigs. All the hogs I've seen on farms have definitely seemed like rough assholes. Cows can be super sweet though. Goats are awesome... if you don't mind them walking on your car or whatever. They don't give a ###$, so don't bring your expensive car around, you have to just be safe, but they're ######6 awesome cause they are like independent little dudes that escape everything and do what they want.
Nowadays I live way less rural, so it is what it is. I'd like to get a dog soon... but I need to know I can afford to take care of it and plan on living long enough to take care of it.
