My Dad

Postby 2001ASO » Thu Jun 09, 2005 11:59 pm

My dad and I are constantly bickering, im 17 years old, and he takes 75 % of everythng i tell him defensively, and feels like hs manhood and parent hood is being questioned, often asking, who is the father here you are me

he seems like hes never satisfied with anything i saw or anyway i act

he often compares me do people that he has explained openly he dislkes

by saying, "you remind me of..."

he also never wants to engage in conversation andusuually shows no interest in the thing i have to say

most of all the bickering bothers me,
is there anything i can do to stop this besides no talking at all and avoiding him?

i love my dad but lately he is just allways mad at me

what should i do?

Answer the following questions for me, and I'll have a starting point from which to begin helping you:

Are you male or female, yourself?

How old is your father?

Is he married, divorced, widowed, have a girlfriend?

Does he drink or use any illicit drugs?

Does he have a history of having an anger problem (ranting and raving, throwing things, breaking things)? Is he known in the community as an angry person?

Did you grow up with your father in the household? If your parents are divorced, what have your living arrangements been in recent years?

Do you have a history of getting in trouble at school or in the community? Does your father see you as rebelling against his authority and/or the values he holds?

What sort of things do you try to talk to your father about, when you find him not wanting to be communicative?

What is your manner of interacting with your father? Challenging? Meek? Do you use foul language or present yourself in a way he finds disrepectful?
