Relatively stable person with bipolar/OCD seeks relnship adv

Postby TheCrunchyLittleElf » Sat Aug 02, 2008 8:34 pm

Greetings all,

I was diagnosed with bipolar and OCD when I was 16 (or at least the diagnosis started then and eventually came to that) and I have been medication compliant and out of hospitals, (except for two times ,1 in 2000 and 1 in 2001), for the last 12 years. So I am doing quite well on the surface. What has not gone so well is my love life. I have had only one girlfriend in my entire life and due to the intrusive thoughts from OCD and the bipolar symptoms I have a lot of trouble forming relationships. How can people with my problems find partners who are able to love them for who they are?

Hey,

From my experiences, you will just have to continue on your journey in life and, hopefully, you will encounter someone who understands your 'quirks'. However, when that opportunity arises, you must have the ability to be aware of it, and have the willingness to do something about it - i.e. don't let your OCD take-over and 'prevent' you from forming a relationship.

I say that because, if you have OCD and are single, it can actually be difficult to start a relationship because your OCD is used to a single life, and it does not like being changed (which it would be if the relationship developed)!

So, basically, be more attentive to how girls act around you (or boys, if you're a girl).
