a lonely singletons rant about valentines day

Postby ifonly... » Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:59 pm

if u wanna celebrate st valentine for religious reasons fine, but whoever turned valentines day into such a commercial sickening display of affection was being seriously inconsiderate towards single people. As if I'm not reminded enough every other day of the year that im unloved, I have to endure an entire day of witnessing excessive pda, pretending to be happy for everyone else when they reciece yet another bunch of roses, not being able to talk to anyone cos everyones busy with their gf/bf blah blah blah.

and its everywhere...for the last 3 weeks u go into any shop and there's big red heart balloons in ur face. i go on the interned and google and yahoo have hearts all over the place. u turn on the tv or radio and its all about valentines day. u walk past a restaurant and there's banners advertising valentines day offers.

so im forced to retreat to my room, crying, stuffing my face with comfort food and hibernate until this horrible day is over.

Ifonly how many of those valantines mean anything to the masses.dont be fooled by all the actors and actresses that surround you.how many people buy things for there otherhalfs out of guilt, how many are still together the next valantines day that comes round, its all codswallop. If you want romance go out and find it,because it does not all ways come to find you.you have your keypad in front of you off you go simple as that if you want it.

I know this post may have been more of a hindrance then a help but all the same HAPPY VALANTINES.

A few thoughts....

Postby Excalibur » Thu Feb 14, 2008 7:22 pm

First, There's no religious sigificance to Valentine's Day.
Second, it's been uitlized by the retail sales industry to create a temporary economic stimulous every year.
Third: you teach people how to treat you and consider your value.

If you sit there sobbing into a pillow in retreat because "nobody gives you a valentine" - that means you didn't give you a valentine and let you know every way in every day how much you admire, trust, love, like, and accept yourself...so everybody else is imitating how you treat you....they're ignoring you - just like you are.

i wasnt expecting a personal attack.

sorry if im too stupid for not realising that theres no religious significance in this....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Valentine

i know i get it, im to blame for this $#%^ too. but its only cos nobody else "admires, trusts, loves, likes and accept" me that i can no longer feel the same myself. its a 2 way thing.

and mel, i know most of its meaningless. thats another reason i hate it. surely if u love someone u should show it every day of the year, not just reminded to on one day.

sorry if i had no right to bitch about this day. i'l shut up. what can i say, im an expert on bringing others down. ha...now i have more people that hate me

If it makes any difference...I never really cared about the holiday, boyfriend or not. The candy is good though--I like chocolates and those nothing but sugar hearts..and I buy my own :P.

It never made sense to me either. I know my b/f loves me, and hell, chances are we won't even see eachother today (school vs work schedules..) but I'm not worried about it. silly "holiday".
