Removing Posts?

Postby DwayneA » Mon Nov 05, 2012 9:36 pm

I'm in a bit of a bind here. My friend has seen these posts on this forum and she's not really happy with me. A friend of my dad's actually got emails from her saying she had seen those posts and they included the links to those posts. Dad says she's not very happy with me because I posted her life story on the internet for everyone to see. Dad's also very angry with me because of what I did.

Why does this always happen to me? Everytime I try to do good, it blows up in my face. I always get the most unexpected result.

All I was trying to do was get advice from other people in similar situations on how to help my friend. I was not trying to embarrass her, sell her out, or even get back at her for the way she had been treating me the past year and a half (which I still suspect to be the work of her now ex-boyfriend). I was only trying to help her as a true friend would. I'll admit I used real names, not fake ones. But then again, I've seen other threads on this forum with names, yet it's hard to tell whether they are real or fake.

Since I got the advice I needed and wanted from everybody here (many thanks to everyone who helped me), I won't be posting anymore about what she's been through. I don't want to cause anymore trouble than I never even wanted to cause. Right now, I was wondering if the moderators could remove those posts? I can't delete them since they have replies.

We don't usually remove posts here, because they're indexed in search engines anyway, so deleting them doesn't have much effect after a few days. I could change the names for you, completely or to initials, if that would help? And change your username if that's too close to your real name?

I'd always encourage people to anonymise whatever they share here as much as possible. I tend to assume that people have made up names whenever I see them in posts.

As there are only a few posts here, I can, just for this occasion, edit out the content of the posts for you. As Ada says, we can't delete posts for various technical reasons. As moderators, we are all volunteers, and often have a backlog of work to do, so obviously can't spend our time editing out a member's posts. The member should at all times bear responsibility for what they write. As a one off, I will, however, edit out the content for you. I had, in any case, edited out the names of the people concerned.
