pretty much all myths about casinos are true. Anything you hear or see in a movie does happen. We don't really beat people up who count cards, most of the time we'll just offer them incentives to gambling. Either free drinks and a nice room, maybe a fancy dinner something like that. If they turn it down, we might just kick them out and flag them if they ever come back.
Another way casinos get people to lose is alcohol. We will give people free drinks when they're winning, sometimes when they're losing too. And always if we get the prettiest waitress to deliver it people are more likely to accept it... even more so if we have her say it's from her rather than from the house. And the more you drink the more you're likely to lose
Casino structure is built to keep people inside. The walls are darkly colored, the machines are set up like mazes and always closer to the entrances, exits, restaurants, elevators, so you have to walk buy them to get anywhere that's not the casino floor. The tables are always in the center meaning you have to walk by all the machines to get to them. Yes, and no clocks, people who work in the casino aren't even supposed to wear visible watches so people won't ask us the time. Time flies when you're having fun, we want time to just fly away, along with your money.
People are also more likely to lose if they're being watched. A pit boss may call me over to a table where someone is winning a lot and just stand behind them to put pressure on them.
I know a lot of big city casinos like vegas, atlantic city, reno; they actually hire women to hang out at high roller tables to distract people into messing up.
So in general, casinos will win. You might get lucky, but I really think you have a better chance playing the lottery. Don't bet against the house, we will win.
I play poker with my friends from the casino, twice a month, $25 buyin but that's all.
