OK, kinda funny thing happened today,
The other day I was watching those online videos "Kids tell dirty jokes" (they're quite delightful).
The comments people leave are worth a look: going on about the corruption of innocence etc. as well as how "only pedophiles like this stuff" or "this stuff appropriates pedophilia" etc.
I have left several comments in retaliation to people who think kids shouldn't be doing this stuff but the most acrimonious reply came today.
On the video for "Ruby" I wrote "My god, what a cutie" and someone replied "A legitimate pedophile. Please kill yourself :^)"
I've decided to keep living out of spite. I mean, that was a somewhat disproportionate response, wasn't it?
Funniest thing is I wrote a lot of replies more provocative than my comment above.
Let's judge each other on our actions.

I looked up the seemingly popular "kids telling dirty jokes" and was met with mixed feelings.... mostly due to the fact these kids were either line-fed the material by the filming adult/s or they themselves had heard them via peers which a lot of the commenters picked up on.....but which is more morally correct? Children to be told the jokes (that for those who haven't seen are highly sexual) by adults or by other children?
You cut up a thing that's alive and beautiful to find out how it's alive and why it's beautiful, and before you know it, it's neither of those things, and you're standing there with blood on your face and tears in your sight and only the terrible ache of guilt to show for it.

I don't really think it makes a difference so long as the children are taught to be discrete with shocking humour, pick their audience well and that it isn't really OK to be homophobic, racist etc. as well to be able to employ sensitivity to people.
Lots of people target this idea of "spoon feeding" but it's just telling people jokes the same as any other scenario. If the kids don't get the jokes then those who oppose kids hearing this humour should be pleased.

I think it's ridiculous that older children (like the girl in the clip) should be shielded from such jokes. She clearly understood what she was saying. The people's visceral response seems to me to be born of a perceived affront to their precious and primarily self-serving myth of pristine innocence than any genuine threat to the girl's well-being.

As a believer in innocence of children, I think children should be shielded from "dirty jokes", no matter what their age is

I think that "shielding" kids from anything (sex, violence, dirty jokes, whatever) is not only useless and counter-productive, it is harmful! How long with you shield them? For their whole life? It is better to allow them to see and hear about things and then teach them what is right and what is wrong about those things, rather than keep things hidden away. Because they ARE going to come across those things and you won't be around them to explain and then they will get the idea that you don't want them to have. I don't have kids, but I swear that if I ever do I will NEVER hide things from them!!

A reoccurring sentiment was that the creation and appropriation of these videos would lead to the appropriation of pedophilia and lead to the girl becoming a prostitute.

I think the correct answer here is "appropriate age" children should be taught whatever they need to know at an appropriate age for what ever it is.
Shielding children too much is just as bad, I was shielded from a lot as a child in terms of what sex is and I believe that has helped to cause my personal problems.
