I've been fairly lucky in that I have been able to "come out" with four friends, but I still plan on living and dying alone, I just have friends that I can turn to when things get too desperate.

What do you think? Would you rather live alone and not have to worry about people finding out what you are, or would you rather have relationships and friends but always lying to everyone and pretending to be happy?
I have tried living on my own and avoiding people for most of my life and believe me it does not work, it just makes things more miserable and lonely. I am lucky to have a few friends that have all been brilliant and supportive and my family also have been amazing, so yes it can and does work with the right people.
One part of your life does not define you as a person. Said by a very womderful human being i have had the pleasure to know in my life.

i'm going down the route you describe, but i still feel it's possible to meet people who understand me and want to be with me regardless. truly open minded, intelligent, interesting people seem to be a minority, however, given there are about 7 billion people on this planet, i believe we all have a good chance of meeting people who either get us or don't care how unusual we are because they realize we are decent humans with characteristics that make them want to stay with us.
