Thousands of people in UK claim 'other' sexual preferences

Postby Graveyard76 » Thu Oct 03, 2013 5:01 pm

C+P from Daily Mirror: As many as 180,000 people in the UK have "other" sexual preferences that do not come under any traditional category.

Out of every 100,000 people in the UK, 300 describe their sexual preferences not as straight, gay or bisexual but as "other", a poll has revealed.

Read article here.

I'm sure many paraphiles identify as straight/gay/bisexual if their paraphilia is not their primary orientation. I wonder what the results would look like if there was a choice for secondary orientations, and if there were specific paraphilias listed as options for both primary and secondary.

Looked at the article, what there is of it (short.) But without seeing the report itself, the data means nothing. Could simply be that since the poll asked 16-24 year-olds, the 'other' is mostly made up of those using the new sexual orientation terms like pansexual and whatnot.

That's the first thing I thought as well.
Blame it on me, but know that I won't regret one iota.

If I'm allowed to post the link:

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/dcp171778_280451.pdf ... Integrated Household Survey April 2011 to March 2012: Experimental Statistics

Whether we can trust the respondents to be entirely honest is one thing, but it appears that about 3% - 4% do not fall in the major categories - giving a possible rate of paedophilia between 1% and 4%, but I find it hard to believe that the number of paedophiles would be higher than the number of homosexuals. Might be wrong but I doubt it. One police estimate (from Scotland Yard's paedophile unit, 2000) put the number in the UK at 250,000 or more, which I believe is about 1%. The numbers who sexually offend against children will probably not correlate with the numbers of paedophiles since it might be 60% or more of these are not paedophiles.
