Prozac, Buspar, Klonopin Oh my....

Postby Kelly_1975 » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:50 pm

So I've been in treatment for OCD for a while now. I went thru the Prozac doses all the way up to 80 mg per day and 2 mg Klonopin per day with a tiny dose of Seroquel to help me sleep at night. Basically my mind is active I need sedation just to think straight.

Since I'm in the military it's not uncommon to have your doctor get switched. New doc looks at me and says I'mon way too much Prozac and there are enzymes in my liver which are just getting saturated. So he cuts the Prozac dosage back to 60 and adds Buspar, 5 mg 3x per day with the option to increase it to 3 tabs, 3x per day. Not sure when I'm supposed to use my "option".

And this is in ADDITION to the Klonopin I was already taking and the Seroquel (two small tabs at night).

It seems like a lot of medication don't you think? I agree that 80 is too high, it is the max a human being take and if/when it poops out, I'll have no where to go. So I am glad to reduce it. But is all this normal or should I seek a second opinion??

Did you get bloodwork done to see if indeed the enzymes are high? Awhile back I was on a ton of medicine too: Fluvoxamine, Anafranil, and Prozac all for my ocd, and then 3 medications to manage the side effects: a beta-blocker, narcolepsy medicine to wake up in the morning, and various sedatives at night (with an occasional Klonopin). I decided to try and cut down on some of them because my body was straining to metabolize them. I do think that it's important obviously to think about one's overall health, but it's also important to get through the day....(ocd-wise). If you have the possibility of getting another opinion I think that's always good, plus bloodwork doesn't lie.
