Lost and confused about personality!

Postby confusedboy18 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:30 pm

As I've posted before my life evolves around music, I live and breate, but for the past few months I haven't enjoy listening to music. I find myself over intellectualising everything and being snobby! Now, this may not sound like an obsession but it is, it's ruining my life! I can't enjoy music because I'm too busy worrying about it being mainstream, and other people listening to it. I hate it when other people like the same music as me, I get this weird anxious feeling inside and my mind starts to go crazy obsessing. I just want to enjoy the music, and not worry about sales figures, and think its bad because many people listen to it. I just cannot get it off my mind. I'm trying to ignore any such thought when it comes into mind butits hard! I feel quite down at the moment too! I have this constant feeling of restlessness in my mind because of this.

Maybe, having ocd, you have an exaggerated version of a feeling that people without ocd also get - the wish to be exclusive, select, apart from others. Most advertising is based on the concept, of being different/better - it's a normal feeling. Having ocd, however, means that everything is pushed to extremes.

And look at the punk movement in the 70s and 80s - imagine how those early punks felt, when it became mainstream, rather than an expression of originality and rebellion!
