OCD?

Postby mickymouse147 » Thu May 31, 2012 2:28 pm

Some examples:

- I'd like to start a diet and I want to start it at 7 PM the day before it my diet so that I digest some of the food already.
If I start one minute later than 7 PM I've to begin the diet a day later than planned.

- I keep reinstalling programs on my computer because I feel like not everything has been installed because of small blocks that occur during the install.

-Same with youtube videos, I keep refreshing the page till the video loads flawless, and if it doesn't I feel like I've to make a new youtube account.

- Old example of when I was in 5/6th grade : Kept saying "sorry" to myself for like 5-7 times and this because I liked my older brother. If I didn't I felt like I was owing him something and that I did something bad.

- Watching youtube comments and I'm always checking for the 6th or 7th comment.

Doing my best to speak English properly, I hope you understand what I wrote.

Hello, mickeymouse. Like you, I've repeatedly done or thoughts things over and over, sometimes for long stretches of time, because I kept getting them 'wrong' - and I always thought that if I didn't get them right, then either something bad might happen, or it would mean that I was bad in some way, for not caring enough to do them correctly.

It's really typical ocd behaviour. Anti depressants, (some of them help a lot with ocd) and cbt therapy, helped me a great deal. Also, have a look at 2 threads by margharris, called, 'Horrid morbid thoughts...." and "Great Guru for ocd......"; I think that you may find some very good advice in them.

Best of luck.

Thanks a lot, funky.

Except for the 4th example, are there any others that indicate OCD?

Mickeymouse, what sounds like ocd is the obsession with numbers, (checking for the 6th or 7th comments), and with things, such as your diet, fitting into a neat, rigid system - so that, 1 minute after 7pm, you believe that you've started your diet the next day.

I can't diagnose you on here, you need to see a doctor for that, but you do sound as if you've at least got some traits. Having to start again with computer programmes or youtube videos - I understand the need to do everything absolutely perfectly. People without ocd will just use common sense, and settle for 'good enough', but we can't.

It's less about specific examples, really, than an overall pattern of fixation on particular numbers, and having to do things 'correctly', and being rigid about how things are done.

Please speak to your doctor, there is help there for you. Medication and cbt can help a lot. You don't sound as though you have severe ocd, (if that's what it is), but your behaviour is interfering in your life, and making things difficult and unpleasant for you.
