I'm a college student that has been living with OCD for the past four years. I constantly wash my hands, ask for other's reassurances that something is the way it is, and check things over and over a certain amount of times everytime. The problem is that these little activities build up and cut hours away from my daily life. I feel that my friends are starting to avoid me and my body is suffereing from a lot of physical grief. My hands are so horribly dry from washing constantly that they crack and bleed often. I'm scared to get counseling and I felt that maybe I'd start at a forum and ask for suggestions first.
Can you please tell me how to control these obsessions so that I don't keep hurting myself and ruining my life?

Hi there,
I am glad you decided too talk about your problems, that is the first step. I believe these things are very difficult to do on your own. May I ask what scares you about getting counceling? It is really helpful and someone who knows more about the decise can help you deal with your issues with the help of their knowledge.
Are you obsessive and compulsive? Cause if you are it is always a good start to try to see what makes you do what you are doing. What are you trying to prevent for example and are your compulsions sometimes stronger than at other time. You should write down all this and see if you can see a pattern. What you can start doing is to try to get to know yourself and your decise better, but this is however easier to do with a psyciatrice.
Do I make sence?
Take care now!
