I don't know anything about self-harm, but maybe? I could see how it might potentially help wean you down like a nicotine patch. Interesting thought, and good luck.

Thank, I will. On the bright side my new meds are working really well, so I've already managed to reduce the washing to just two or three times a day, down from once every ten minutes. The bracelet really is a pretty tame shock though, it hurts only about as much as a needle poke. So I'd recommend it for anyone who feels backed into a corner.

Good thought, but you need water to live. I've tried removing myself from soap many times. If it's farther away I just walk more. If it's inaccessible I just compensate with another compulsion (i.e. door walking) until I get near it again.

Brilliant, I'll just stop. OCD is a playground bully, and I just need to stick up for myself like in Karate Kid.
Mere "anxiety," as Heidegger says, is at the source of everything.
