How to distract yourself and calm down

Postby -tanja- » Fri Jun 10, 2016 8:49 pm

I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to share their ways of distracting yourself from OCD and anxiety and to calm down. For me (sadly) the best distraction is the internet but today I realized that taking a walk while listening to music is calming, too. I guess trying to keep yourself busy is good.
What are your ways of dealing with that?

Dear tanja:

I think this is an excellent topic. Distraction, for me, to be helpful has to be one that does not harm the one doing the distraction (ex. overeating, doing drugs, injuring oneself via over exercise) or to anther person (ex. abusing another). Such distractions can be: reasonable exercise, aerobic or yoga or any, hot bath, music, music and hot bath at the same time, meditation, mindfulness exercises and practice and so much more.

Listening to music kind of helps me. Especially upbeat happy songs. Also talking with friends and gaming is one of the things that seems to distract me a bit.
