How do I fix the OCD in my head?

Postby psychic_wold » Fri May 20, 2016 5:04 pm

Hello,

I have been suffering from OCD (intrusive thoughts) and paranoia for the past 10 years or so.
During those periods, there have been pauses during which I would feel fine, but sooner or later, I experience a panic attack based on my OCD.

An example of my crazy OCD.

I had a collection of swiss army knives (little pocket knives) and decided to sell them except for one.

I found a buyer and gave them to him for a decent price.

However, after the deal was over, my OCD kicked in and told me this was a mistake because the knives have my fingerprints all over them, and he can use the blades to commit a crime and frame me. The knives were already sold and I couldn't clean them. I remembered that previously I would clean everything that I sell. One time I bought the most powerful alcohol to clean a watch and sell it.

I know this sounds crazy but it's my head. And I have many similar examples. Some even crazier.

What do I do? Do I simply ignore it and try to live with it?

Thank you for your answer.

Is my fear rational?

What do I do?

Do I simply ignore it and try to live with it?

Thank you for your answer.

Gotta love it.

Nothing I wouldn't have worried about, from time to time. Variations on harm OCD, sounds like to me. I would worry about something like that, if I allowed myself to.

Yeah, mijo. You learn to ignore it. I have intrusive harm thoughts. Not every second of every day- but for 40 years, on and off, I will have intrusive thoughts about killing loved ones or pets. I ignore it. I have to- what else am I going to do? I can't go live in a cave. You have no choice but to not let these thoughts bother you. Which isn't the same as magically not ever thinking them again. In my experience, that doesn't happen. Again, I've had harm OCD in many forms, since the 1970s. I deal with it. Ultimately, that's what we all have to do, deal with it. These are just thoughts. These are pocket knives- you didn't sell surplus live RPGs on Craigslist. It's gonna be all right, mijo- and you have to make that it's going to be all right your story- and stick to it. OCD doesn't respond to reason- so we have to be obstinate in the face of it. Don't get me wrong- I get many of the same kinds of fears. But eventually, I have to walk away and say Whatever happens, I don't care.

Thank you for the reply.

The older I get the more I get those kinds of thoughts.

It all started when I finished school.

Before that, I wasn't so ######6 insane.

Also, it looks like a genetic thing. My mother has similar, although not the same OCD thoughts.
