Random symptoms?

Postby kah80 » Sat May 14, 2016 5:34 pm

I need to know if any/all of these are OCD. I worry they are not because I don't do them all the time?

1. When I've done the washing I hang it on the airer and as I do I count the items that I'll be ironing in 2 days when they're dry. I also try and arrange them by colour like if I put something black on one side I'll try and put the next black thing on the other side and I'll balance out bright colours on different sides. When I iron them I'll count them all again and count them as I iron them.

2. I divide things up a lot. Like if I have 20 things to iron I'll do 4, then look at my phone, then do another 4 then get a drink etc. If I'm reading my kindle and I'm in the bath and it says 9 mins left in the chapter I'll read 3 mins, wash my hair, read another 3 mins then wash, etc. And if I'm reading the newspaper I'll often count how many stories and read them in sections like that. But I don't do these things all the time.

3. At work I'll adjust my screen every few seconds because it never quite looks in the right place. Before I leave my desk I have to make sure the screen, mouse mat, mouse and phone are all straight.

4. Sometimes when I read I'll worry I can't remember exactly what the word on the page before was, even when it doesn't matter- like was it 'this' or 'the' and I have to go back and check. But I don't do this often.

5. If I've written notes and they stay in front of me for a while I'll keep going over a letter or adding a line to make a letter bigger or something sometimes because it doesn't seem complete.

6. I get aggitated by silly things- like once I saw a certificate on the wall of a vet's and it was a word in lower case letters but the i didn't have a dot on top of it and it literally drove me mad, I couldn't get it out of my head and really wanted to get a pen and dot the i.

7. Sometimes I take something and it doesn't feel right and I have to put it back and take another one even though they are the same thing, like if I'm taking a yogurt out of the fridge and they're all the same flavour the first one won't feel right so I'll put it back and take another one waiting for it to feel right. Eventually I tell myself I'm being silly and make myself take one.-

8. When I was at uni I got it into my head that I had to do 3 hours study a day or I'd fail. I would time myself obsessively and I'd even study on a car journey to make sure I'd done 'enough'.

9. Often if I've written something and have to change it, I can't just delete part of a word I have to delete it all and write it again. Like if I wrote a number 256 and I meant to write 257 I can't just delete the 6 and put in the 7, I have to delete the whole number and put it in again.

Most important thing about OCD is the anxiety. Just doing things in a specific order doesn't necessarily mean you have it. Imagine that you could NOT do anything in a particular order. How would you feel? Would you feel anxious? People can do things in a neat and tidy order for they feel comfortable doing so. When a person has OCD, doing things in an order is an obsession. Compulsively natural to them. IF they don't do it, they become very anxious, like something bad is going to happen. An irrational fear takes over. When its a disorder, the obsession takes over and becomes like a nightmare. Its hard to think straight. Doing things that others can do, like keep a job, having a stable family life and just socializing becomes awkward and difficult.

I've been diagnosed with OCD but I keep spending hours doubting I have it and googling stuff and anxiously posting here. I'm afraid this was one of those times and I was panicking I don't have it and asking for reassurance that my symptoms are OCD. Now I'm anxious that maybe I don't have it after all.

Since I didn't actually answer the question...:

1. Yes I feel anxious if I don't know how many things there are to iron or if I lose count as I'm ironing.

2. Not sure about this one.

3. I just feel I have to do it.

4. Not sure.

5. I just feel I have to do it.

6. Yes very anxious.

7. Just doesn't feel right.

8. Yes, I would be all panicky if i didn't do 3 hours study a day, thinking I'd have to do it or I'd fail.

9. I just feel I have to do it.

Can anyone relate to any of these?
