ocd glass shard!

Postby tmosler » Fri Jan 22, 2016 3:57 am

Hi im new here and just want your guys opinion on this recent ocd fear of mine. After suffering from ocd and intrusive thoughts for the past couple years only to get much better after changing my diet and taking supplements such as fish oil and magnesium iv recently relapsed into another one of my occasional ocd episodes. So last night I accidently broke a glass while taking out the trash and since it was dark out I couldn't really see anything, so when I got back inside I began to think what would happened if the glass had broken into tiny microscopic glass shards and they were all over me. So as you can imagine these thoughts are driving me crazy all day, just like my fear of chemicals(im not scared of germs) so I keep thinking what if there are these pieces of glass shards all over me or have been spread around the house and what happends if I accidently spread them to my food or worse pets who could get harmed! Now I know this most likely seems irrational but My ocd is driving my crazy and Id really appreciate any insight into this phobia of mine!

OCD will always consist of magical thinking (Things that general dont make sense or are unlogical) the step here is to recognize the obsession your having and correct it with proper logic to overwrite the OCD lies, for example if you had glass shards in you, you would most likely feel it, and glass arnt that small, a glass shard can only go that small if you kept smashing 1 shard over and over again. All you need to do is correct yourself with logic and slowly the OCD anxiety will diminish in time. But OCD will always create new doubt thats something that you will need to recognize in time.
