Is this OCD?? Think i'm cracking up

Postby LleoLlion » Thu Aug 24, 2006 10:15 am

Hi, have been diagnosed with numerous anxiety disorders but i'm wondering if some of my symptoms are OCD as i have never been told i have this disorder & i am convinced i am cracking up!! My mind is racing constantly through out the day & i am obsessed with my own thoughts! I am constantly analzying my thoughts & questioning my sanity with my thoughts & actions, then i become convinced i am cracking up! I constantly need & ask for reassurance & no matter how many times i get reassured it just never seem enough. I make lists in my head & then i go over those lists reapeatedly in my head until it is just right. I will even have conversations in my head then go over these conversations again & again until it feels just right. I eventually feel like i can no longer think & my mind is just a muddled mess, which leads me to become even more convinced i am cracking up. I just feel totally lost. Is this part OCD??? :(

You've said you have been diagnosed before....are you in counseling now? Have you thought about brining this up w/ your counselor. Making lists can be associated w/ OCD....but that is just ONE symptom. Try not to get carried away w/ diagnosing yourself based on one thing! I caution you to talk w/ your dr. before stressing over one thing! Many things go into the make-up of OCD and only your dr. can diagnose accurately whether you are dealing w/ OCD or whether this is simply associated with one of the others that you have already been diagnosed with. As well as if you are dealing with OCD or if this is simply part of one of your other diangosis.....he can prescribe meds....OR he can counsel you in ways to help yourself.

Try not to get caught up on the label (diagnosis) either. Remember it's not always so important what to call what you are dealing with as it is to focus on how to DEAL with what you are dealing with. Get counseling. Start to work on ways to deal with this. You can work through things like OCD, etc. Meds can help calm your symptoms but there are also many things you can do for yourself in you every day life to help as well! I deal w/ OCPD and there are things I do in combo with taking meds so that I'm no longer as bad as I used to be!!
