beating a topic to death

Postby natagirl » Sun Apr 23, 2006 2:34 pm

Do you ever find yourself wanting to discuss something that's bothering you (or that's on your mind) to someone, and end up jabbering more than most people?? When I was really depressed, and leading up to then, I would talk to my co-workers at this job I had a few years ago, and I am ashamed to say that I think they got fed up of me :( I feel like when something traumatic happens to me, or if I have a problem I'm trying to work out, it burdens me until I have to tell someone about it and ask for their input. And I wonder with ocd if that is a tendency we all have and can't control? I mean, look at me, I'm posting so much on here!! There must be something wrong with me!!!!!!! :o

There's nothing wrong with you at all my friend. It is a great thing that you look to release your frustration through talking. However, I feel that you should be more careful with who you talk to. Some people who do not understand OCD or depression will grow tired of hearing you talking to them about your problems. It is at that point that talking to them becomes more negative than positive.

For example, four years ago at the onset of my depression I tried to talk to my college friends about it but they had never experienced anything like depression before. So, they thought that I was weak, and weird. I should have gone to a counsellor but I didn't and got deeper into depression.

Yeah, I should definitely watch that. The thing is, I never had told anyone I have ocd tendencies until now, so I'm sure a lot of people must have thought I was crazy! :o

You told people that you had OCD? - Are you close to these people?

No, what I'm saying is that I didn't tell anyone that I've got ocd, especially not the people who I had talked to in times of stress or other problems I needed to talk out.
