Good morning my friends, so I have been battling this type of OCD for some time now, the OCD I am speaking of is one that makes you feel like a killer, serial killer, manic, and a person who is destined to lose their minds. So lets start this off...two weeks ago I purchased a handgun primarily to protect my home and family. As I purchased it and the realization hit in, I noticed that my unwanted thoughts came rushing from every angle. Thoughts that I purchased the gun to hurt my family or people I don't know. The first week was I so anxious and slowly started to phase down. Then I started to look up on situations on the sandy hook mass murder or James Holmes and thought wow maybe I'm one of these guys?! I started to research why they did it and compared how I felt to similar mental issues that they had. To think about the gun brings me anxiety, but at the same time protection. I feel like I'm being pulled 80 different directions with no solid answer. At work I had a co worker state (not knowing that I suffer from OCD) that no one who has a mental problem should own a gun, which made me feel that should I get rid of mine? I also was told by a psychiatrist that i seen once thay i was hypomanic but not bi polar? Please offer your feedback and I would greatly apperciate it.

you should talk to someone who knows you very well. (i.e wife, girlfriend, therapist, psychiatrist) and ask their opinion on this one. none of us know you in person so we can't be the judge of whether you or those around you will be safe.
typically, hypomania does not cause killing sprees.
what are these unwanted thoughts, exactly?
and how do you feel when they appear in your mind?
what do you do about them?
that last one is probably the most important question of the three
=^-.-^=
