Meet Sam Vaknin, author of the book Malignant Self Love. Sam knows he’s a supreme narcissist... but is he, as he suspects, also a psychopath? To find out, he becomes the world’s first civilian volunteer to be thoroughly tested for psychopathy.
Along the way, Vaknin encounters the minefield of scientific, ethical, moral and social issues involved in being labelled a psychopath. When things don’t quite go his way, he turns on the filmmaker, unleashing vicious displays of verbal abuse which show the psychopath in ‘bullying mode” and make for some of the most disturbing moments in the film.
Then, there’s his wife Lidija. She wants a baby, but is upset by the possibility that the child would inherit psychopathic personality traits. Sam consistently advises her against it. Lidija’s sister believes she’s been brainwashed by hermtwelve years with Sam.
I, Psychopath is the ultimate road trip/head trip movie and a dangerous mission. The ‘human guinea pig’, his wife, the scientists, the filmmakers... no-one is likely to ever be quite the same again.

A series which has run here twice that I know of called Mania. He was on at the end of one of the shows titled Egomania.
He showed his impatience, intolerance and greater-than-thou attitude on that as well, he tried to contain it, but he gave in to his impulses - as they all do.
The fact that the spiel for the show highlights that his outburst of verbal abuse makes for the 'most disturbing parts of the film' and is a teaser to get you to watch it because of this, is the disturbing part.
It reminds me of that Ramsey cook fellow, who has dummy spits, tantrums, hissy fits and screams verbal abuse at his workers and then it's touted as "entertainment". In fact, as far as I can make out, it's top-rating. Rather a sad reflection on our society that we tune in by the hoards to view verbal abuse being dished out by someone who is really nothing more than an angry, inconsiderate person, and we think we're being entertained.
Knew I didn't watch that show for a reason. I think I saw 1/2 an episode one year and never bothered again. Way back in my dark ages I wasn't aware of abuse, but now I am, and if I were to be ever so unfortunate and be forced to watch the show, I'd see what you see.Permanentgreen wrote:You are right about Ramsey and his abuse is obvious but what about "Everybody Loves Raymond"? The whole humor is about driving Debra crazy, by intrusive in laws and just watching her not being able to get through to her husband or him ever standing up to his parents for her.
But it's being sold as cute dysfunction where you never get a satisfaction of her ever standing up to anybody and that's supposed to be viewed as normal. Mother in law that's critisizing this poor idiot who is defending herself in vain. Oh, and a man child husband that's ignoring her frustration and defending his parents.
Cause, oh, deep down they all love each other and butt in out of love.
yuck
