Do you invalidate others' feelings........?

Postby Bigbird98 » Sat Aug 23, 2014 1:39 am

But hate it when others invalidate (saying things like "don't be silly" or "you shouldn't feel that way" or "oh, come on........" or something like that) or minimize your feelings?

Just wondering if this is a Narcissistic thing. I do this myself. If I feel that someone's feelings about something I did are silly, I personally see no reason to change the behavior. However, If someone were to invalidate or minimize my feelings about something, I get defensive :x

In situations where I invalidate, I simply can't help but to see the other person's feeling as silly (or whatever I see them as), That's just how my brain is wired.

sometimes.

when people tell me about their heartbreaks I can't empathize with that because I've never been dumped or loved anyone.

other things I can empathize with and do try to validate their feelings.

we tend to dismiss those feelings or experiences we've never had though, imo. but if we care we'll conjure something.
