is there anything such as altruism from a narc? does an npd put another first?

does there always have to be something in it for them to act?

Let me ask. What aroused your curiosity to ask this? In my opinion, I have noticed most Borderline's to do this in an idealization phase in the beginning of a relationship. A Narcissist by nature has no altruism. I could see it happening though if there was major gain involved.

i was thinking about my npd father and why he does what appears to be unselfish acts and fail to meet his fatherly duty in other situations.

he helped me pay my schooling, for example but never played ball with me as a child or paid any attention to me.

he often does favours for the people around him, he helps them out, whether this is to gain favor is unknown.

Why are you asking this question?
What would altruism mean to you? And how are you making connection with the game theory?
It would perhaps be more clear if you were presenting the specific situation that triggered you to ask this question.

By the way, there is the introduction thread where are new members welcome to introduce themselves.

Basic wiki definitions for those who don't understand a stock general concept. Altruism isn''t a personal definition, it is a generalized universal conception, maybe this will help you make the connection between the two concepts: game theory vs altruism

Atruism or selflessness is the principle or practice of concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures and a core aspect of various religious traditions and secular worldviews, though the concept of "others" toward whom concern should be directed can vary among cultures and religions. Altruism or selflessness is the opposite of selfishness.

Altruism can be distinguished from feelings of loyalty. Pure altruism consists of sacrificing something for someone other than the self (e.g. sacrificing time, energy or possessions) with no expectation of any compensation or benefits, either direct, or indirect (e.g., receiving recognition for the act of giving).

Game theory is a study of strategic decision making. Specifically, it is "the study of mathematical models of conflict and cooperation between intelligent rational decision-makers".[1] An alternative term suggested "as a more descriptive name for the discipline" is interactive decision theory.[2] Game theory is mainly used in economics, political science, and psychology, as well as logic and biology. The subject first addressed zero-sum games, such that one person's gains exactly equal net losses of the other participant(s). Today, however, game theory applies to a wide range of behavioral relations, and has developed into an umbrella term for the logical side of decision science, to include both human and non-humans, like computers.

Neeei it didn't help.

But I am making connection with your user name and some others that were kicked from the forum.
I am wondering what kind of disorder would apply to someone who gets addicted to being kicked from the Internet forum.
Maybe you can help me with that.

excuse me? are you into anagrams? my name is a spin off of dash snow, a artist who died from an overdose. he was a great photographer. why are you attacking my name and making assumptions about who i am? what does my name have to do with other forum members?

you are one wacky lady and an ignorant one, at that.

he died at such a young age, i wonder what he could have became if he lived to be an old man. some people never figure out who they are as an artist before it's too late.

my N only put me first in the idealization phase and when he wanted something from me. he would do me favours if it made him look good or to glean loyalty.

hi violet!! haven't been kicked off. still here.

sorry dash, violet is a lil paranoid...

to be fair, i wasn't kicked off, i asked for that user name to be deleted. you can stop being paranoid now. i'm here but in a different form.
