I do believe this takes place often times. I have said to others 2 unhealthy people are the first to attract each other and it never lasts. I see so many people bitching about what their partner is like be it a N or anything else but as I read their posts I am always asking myself, "that's your partners issues but why are you even interested in this person to begin with with all the problems they have"

Touché.
Catchme, did you mean the law of attraction as described by the movie/book 'The Secret', focusing on something and obtaining it, or the laws that govern physical attraction between two people?
I believe in the law of attraction as far as this saying goes: life is a mirror of the dominant thoughts you think. Positive thoughts are often accompanied by positive experiences in life. I don't think there is really much else to it, and all this metaphysical nonsense surrounding 'the secret' was just made to be a money maker. The title bothers me on its own....as if behind common sense lies some kind of secret.

I should have known this would take the form of relationships:-)

Yes, you are right, and maybe this was what Sigurd was trying to say too. At the time of a failed relationship, maybe there is or was something wrong with that person as well, how they got in that relationship to begin with.

Anyways, relationships suck so lets talk about something more fruitful.

I heard about the law of attraction several 6ears ago from someone who was distorted. (No, I'm not diagnosing, which is why I'll just leave that vague). But I was reminded of it tonight when I watched a documentary.

The laws of attraction doesnt necessarily have to deal with people. Quite simply, it states that if you think about something enough, you will believe in it so much that it will become yours-a house, job, etc.
If one fails at getting x. y. or z, it means he didnt want/believe hard enough.

To me, it sounds very absolute, and I dont believe in absolüte.

Yes, thats what my disto4ted aquaintance begin to talk to me about was that he read The Secret. Just tonight's documentary made me think of it. I did not read half of The Secret. I hated it. Basically using their logic, if a woman is raped, its because she drew that person close to her or she was too negative in thought.

As I said before, too absolute.

You're speaking about something close to the saying "Thoughts are things" If you think something long and hard it will be that. Example, if you think of how horrible something is going to be, it will then be horrible simply because that is what 'you' have made it.

Goes both ways for me. Yes I think there are times in my life when "thoughts are things" and the more negative I am, the more negative something else will be, or visa versa. I also think there are times no matter how hard we might try to think something is going to be a particular way it never will be.

I also do NOT believe in absolutes!!! (not usually)

You're speaking about attitude and perception. Yes, it is what you make of it in the end and. maybe you wont see that it was good but in the end, things worked out.

What I'm talking about is I'll use my distorted aquaintance as an example. He's obsessed with lambourginis. He's convinced he'll own one someday. I'm skeptical of that because of the cost, and there is only an x amount of them in the world. But no, hes convinced if he thinks about it hard enough, he"ll find a way to get one. He believes in the absolute-that no matter what he will get it.

I actually admire the sense of omnipotency because people who believe this way dont have fear of failure in their face. (like me when I work on my stuff....'.I just think it MUST work because failure is the end....)

Using your example, no I don't believe that at all.

Unless that person were to win the lotto, it's a nice dream. Doesn't necessarily mean the person shouldn't have that as a perceived goal but the reality.. it's a dream

Ya. I think he is like me in the way we try to create our own reality, which is what I believe in. Dont be a slave, take your own life in your own hands,. But I think we have different crutches to use in the process.
But i think the the law of attraction is set up for distorted people. But its leading them on really.
