New member muzzle period - how long does it last?

Postby jersey_2012 » Sat Sep 29, 2012 5:56 am

I realize new member postings are censored for an indeterminate period as per the activation information. How long does this muzzle period usually last either in posts or time? I find the premise of submitting details of my personal issues to an unknown stranger for judgment on whether my issue is valid enough to receive help with rather off-putting...

There was a discussion about this recently: member-introduction/topic97275.html

I think as mods, we came to the conclusion that we don't know exactly how many posts it is. I think it's maybe 1 or 2. But if you keep posting lots before the first couple are approved, then all of the posts you have made until at least 2 are approved will need to be approved also. So for example, if you've posted 20 posts before any mods have had a chance to read and approve 2, then all of them will need to be approved. So if you post loads and loads before we have a chance to read them, then it usually slows the process down a bit.

We aren't judging if your issues are "valid enough" to receive help, that's not the purpose of post approval. We are generally looking for spam, multiple accounts (as that is against forum rules), or other things that are against forum rules (for example if people post pictures of themselves or give out their email address). Generally this is just so that we can edit out anything that is against forum rules or add trigger warnings or ban spammers. We're not judging if your issues are valid or not, only that you haven't broken any rules. And generally, if you are talking about your issues, even if you have accidentally broken a rule, we're probably going to just correct it and let you know rather than censoring your whole post. So no need to worry...
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.
