site software

Postby kitchenman » Fri Jan 29, 2016 10:11 pm

I like this site but the login and contact administrators functions do not work reliably. I lost a long new post today after being logged in. When I logged in after completing the post it was lost.

When you login, there's a check box just under, something to the effect of, 'automatically log me in each time'. Checking that off, seem to help with being unexpectedly booted off. Also some people who make long posts, have resorted to writing them offline, such an in Notepad or another simple word editor.

However, I've found by keeping that box checked when I log in, I myself have few problems with being unexpectedly booted off when making a post, and I lose very few posts as a result...

Also, usually you might get a faster response to questions, by either posting here in Member's Corner, or contacting one of the mod staff, via PM, than using the Contact form.

Speaking of the 'Log me on automatically each visit' feature, am I just dumb, or am I just dumb? even when this is checked, it never logs me in automatically. I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding the concept of this feature or if it's simply faulty?¿ also, what's with the 'unable to use search at this time ___' message when you try to view your active posts/topics? I'm assuming this is just delay after logging in? any answers would be much appreciated.

Well, the forum software is, what it is.

All told, I prefer the platform Psych Forums is on, to that of some other forums I frequent. I like the functionality and I'm used to the PF platform.

I don't know- I don't have to log in each time, if that's what you mean, Corgis. Checking that box seems to help with getting randomly booted. It keeps being automatically logged off from happening nearly as frequently. I use PF across four devices, using several different browsers, and have no problem with still being logged in when I go to PF. Within reason, assuming I've used that device/browser fairly recently for PF. Checking that box makes for a persistent cookie, I'm sure, though I haven't looked into it.

Keep in mind, ofc, if you're using anything like Private Browsing, InBrowsing, etc., whatever private browsing experience the browser you use has, then no cookies are going to be set, and you will have to log in each and every time. Or if you have your browser permissions particularly strict, restricting the use of cookies, that's also going to keep you from staying logged in, session to session.

Hmm, that's weird. I rarely ever go incognito, so I'm not sure why I'm always having to log in. Thank you for the reply nonetheless, my questions have been answered and I'm satisfied. I'm sure I'll figure it out by myself. I too enjoy PFs format, very easy to use and navigate. :P

Note, if you're using a mobile device, I can understand it doing weird things. There is no mobile support and ppl have mentioned it's difficult at times. A tablet shouldn't be too much of a problem but accessing it from a phone can be interesting.

Yeah, mobile sites can be rather frustrating and prone to glitches. I'm usually accessing PF via PC, so I'm pretty much good to go. that's useful (for mobile users?) to know nonetheless. :D

It doesn't play nicely with the "Hide my online presence." They both work perfectly in isolation, but not when combined.

No idea. But it's been happenening as long as I've been a member. I just browse from the main page for a thread or two. Then it works fine again. :D

Thanks for clearing things up, Ada! :D

Neither bother me too much, I was more or less just curious. everything else works perfectly fine.
