Search

There are certain words that never search. I've realized the connecting factor between all of them is they are three letters. Is there some issue with the search function with words under 4 letters?

It's likely a full-text index. By default words three letters and lower are not indexed. They can change the server settings, I assume MySQL's settings given that it is phpBB, to include three letter words. It should have a minimal impact on performance, although I'm not entirely sure the size of the forum database or the server stats to predict whether there will be performance issues or not.

Common words are also omitted by default. If certain search strings don't work that is why. Although there aren't too many greater than four letter common words, and the four letter common words aren't something you'd generally want to search for in the context of this site. I believe the stock common word list also has two and three letter words, so lowering the minimum letter limit for indexing still should not be so bad.

It's a pain, isn't it. ;)

I like how two people with three letter usernames commented! :D

We're a doomed group. We can't tell if anyone loves us on psychforums. :(

That's it EXACTLY!

Not that I have a narcissistic personality or anything. But I would like to follow up on the rare occasions people mentioned me, [without my already having posted in a topic.] And it can't be done. I thought there might be a way in Google. But it insists on showing me all my own posts, which I already know about.

Wow, I never knew about this problem before. Maybe that's why I sometimes have trouble searching for some members...

Hehe  I think we've all done that from time to time. It's very interesting. It's a shame you can't though with three letters.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

Haha, I never thought of that. Maybe all the longer-named members should keep in mind their disadvantaged shorter-named fellows, and send them a PM if their name pops up in less obvious places.

How about we make it a demand punishable by a fine (that gets paid to the three letter named person who was not notified). I just want to combat negligence and promote community! I swear!
