I've been getting vivid dreams/nightmares nightly ever since quitting melatonin 7 months ago. Prior to that, I was taking melatonin on a daily bases, sometimes exceeding the maximum dose to something like 25mg, for around 3 years. I've had nightmares then also, but I think they came less frequently.
This have been really screwing with me, with me waking up with sweat multiple times a week. I've also noticed that if I put on a sleeping mask (which causes the body to produce more melatonin?) the dreams get way more vivid.
Is this a temporary thing? Or have I screwed up my neurocircuitry so much I won't be able to recover?
Thanks!

Did you just stop taking the melatonin, or did you taper? Wow! 25mg is a lot. Maybe you could try taking some again, like a much smaller amount this time, and see if it helps. If it does, then perhaps you could taper off this smaller amount slowly.
