What do you think about rap music?

Postby emz-05 » Thu Nov 03, 2005 4:37 pm

im 14 and i luv rap music, its my life, my all time favourite rapper is 2pac!
i want every one who reads this to state what they think about rap.
im doing this because i live in the uk and if you do music for your GCSE's you cant do a piece of rap music, you have to either play an instument or sing-NOT RAP
i think that is ridiculous cos i luv to rap im well good now.
is there anyone else on here who luvs rap like me?
your welcome to share your views i dont mind cos its your opinion.
thanks so much!

Rapping about drugs, money, hoes, sex and violence, those kind of things, I dont like hearing about. Although some rap artists like 2Pac, Nas, Kanye West are the things I'm interested in. More deep subjects. I dont even like rap meant to just entertain you like Will Smith. But other than a very select few, Im more of an Rock/Alternative kind of gal.

I was first exposed to rap when I was in juvie at age 14 in a place called ******* Hill. At first I absolutely hated it. As time went on I listened to the words. I got closer to the other kids and I started to love it. Now when I hear "Don't push me cuz I'm close to the edge. I'm trying not to lose my head" or " wadda you going to do when you get outta jail. I'm gonna have some fun" I turn up the radio and dance to the beat shuffle my feet. I don't really like most of the new stuff but I love old school rap. It was my prom music.

emz-o5, while I am not a fan of rap generally I see it as being just as valid a form of expression as any other.
From what little I know of rap it's origins derive from traditional forms of African song. In this respect I fail to see why your teacher is allowed to dismiss it as an invalid art compared to other forms of vocal performance.
Perhaps you should ask someone superior to your music teacher for an explanation of why they are allowed to discriminate against your favoured from of vocal expression. I would advise you to gather a few facts on the African roots of rap before you start shouting at anyone though  .

I do listen to some types of rap although what don'twakeup said....

"Rapping about drugs, money, hoes, sex and violence, those kind of things.."
also when the rappers are expressing only physical desires for pleasure or hate it kind of gets to me...yeah I am an angsta(listen to angry music) it generally falls on I have to become a better person. yad yada....

When it comes down to it
I don't like music that goes agains't my religeous upbringing
Music that continues to use the same word to continue ryming...bleh bleh white tee bleh bleh white tee...so cool in my white tee bleh bleh
lol that kind of music is sorry stuff to my ears...
also my lifestyle doesn't portray the gangsta lifestyle so I generally don't relate to it.

GO AVRIL LAVIGNE....:D

Avril Levine; just another corporate puppet for the vapid generation.

Janis Joplin would laugh her ass off at this pretend angst churned out for whiney brats.

My brother recantly forced me to listen to an Eminem CD and i loved it. Although i prefer more instrumentally complex i wouldnt mind listening to eminem again. most other rap makes me want to cut my ears off.
