I can speak a bit of French, I lived in France for a little while just so I could learn the language, it's my favorite country. And a little German, I have a half German sister!

I speak some French, though I'm still a bit rusty. I did take French for the equivalent of 10 years in total. I can understand it for the most part when reading it, and sometimes when listening to it. But I can't really speak it very well or write it out very well. I still would like to perfect it though.

english is a foreign language to me..

mostly i speak malay.. and i rather speak in malay.. although in my country what i found unique.. it is a normal thing (even formal shows on tv) for a conversation where one is wholly speaking in malay and the other using 100% english.. its like a duck having a conversation with a chicken.. we totally understand each other.. does it happen anywhere else too?

I think it happens places where English is a commonly used second language - tho I love your analogy! Then there is the combination - pidgin or whatever it is called in each country - I knew it as pidgin in Nigeria.

Portuguese is my mother language. Then I also know english and spanish. I should also know french, but is too rusty to count although I can read it pretty well and understand enough to watch a movie without subtitles, same happens with Italian and latin.

in malaysia its manglish.. which is suppose to mean malay+english.. not mangled english.. though it really sounded mangled enough to english speaking tourist..

for example.. 'can do what' or 'so hard one.. cannot lah'.. which are direct translation from malay that means something along the lines of 'you are capable of doing it' and 'its very hard.. i don't think i can'..

and in singapore.. its singlish which is mandarin+english..
