Urge to post funny stuff

Postby green_tea » Fri Mar 11, 2011 3:01 pm

Anyone else have to fight the urge to post jokes or quips on some forums?

This is especially enticing when some "non" is posting. It doesn't matter what they are non-about. Nons seem so self-righteous. And they almost inevitably have gotten themselves into a relationship in which the issues should have been obvious from the start. The most obvious insight is that they must have some undisclosed issues of their own in order to get into such a mess in the first place, yet these forums provide an outlet for them to play "innocent victim."

Anyway, on some forum I will not name, a non talks about being the victim of the "devaluing cycle" and all I wanted to do while reading this nonsense was to post, "Are you sure you don't mean menstrual cycle?" But I am female and I know damn well males will use that to conclude that, in fact, the monthly cycle IS oh so important in females' behavior... but I still really wanted to post that... Because it made me laugh.

I have had those urges but so much gets lost in translation here that you can never tell what is going on behind the scenes. Sometimes people open here with lighter stuff to test the waters about whether to post heavier stuff. Sometimes people do not know how to phrase what is really going on as well.
The worst part is we can not hear tone of voice or see their faces. What ever their issue is-how ever frivolous it might seem-it is real to them. The very last thing they may need to here is an off color joke. Everyone wants to be heard.
When I get that impulse I also ask myself if my humor is really about them or am I trying to break some tension going on in me?
Usually it is the latter. I work on that but I do slip sometimes and feel like such a witch afterwards.
Great Question green_tea!

I don't recommend you post this clip there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCwKbUVyHLY (but I hope it's safe here  )

Yes, but I'm probably more inclined to make provocative comments than jokes.

Like when a certain beverage wrote:
There are young poor females who need a place to go just like males at that age. Males have endless opportunities to make a living and yet many of them still live with mommy and daddy forever! But the females want to work but there are no safe opportunities. Safe? Safe? Yeh, how about being in the military but not having to worry about being attacked by the MEN on your own side? Obviously the military is NOT an alternative for a female who wants to support herself and separate from her parents.

I was very tempted to reply that young females have ample job opportunities that are less available to men, such as in topless waitressing, exotic dancing, stripping and prostitution. :P

I like what you wrote One. I think this is worth trying to remember.
No diagnosis, lots of opinions, and a bunch of issues that I haven't quite figured out.
