This is a complicated question... I would have to say yes and no...

CONS...

No medical care... ie: no doctors, no medical help at all...

Too Remote... I've grounded myself due to siezures and gaps in time while driving... I drive a motorcycle... it's a $32 cab ride to town, or a 3 1/2 hour run one way, but I'm agoraphobic right now, so that's not really working out real well when I need to do stuff anyways. When I do muster up the confidence and mental preparation to leave the house, it's such an added inconvenience it's even that much harder to work through with purpose.

No jobs... but not that I could leave the house to perform one anyways on a steady basis. So I guess it's not really a con, just a terrible inconvenience if I was normal enough to function.

No affordable housing... literally, there is none...

Wildlife... lions, tiger and bears... oh my... well not lions and tigers, but we have bears, 7' bush wolves, fischers, and other non-human friendly critters that will eat you.

Living at home with mom and dad... court ordered, I don't have a choice... Still doesn't make it any easier a pill to swallow. I feel like I'm 12 sometimes in how they treat me, and my family just does not understand me. I'm 33... going on 13.

Lack of reliable internet, and electricity... this area is rampant with falling trees, shorting out transformers and causing massive blackouts all the time it gets mildly windy. Or one of the local dunks at another cottage got to many in them and drove their vehicle into a pole.

Summer time... all the cidiots come up from Toronto, Ohio, and wherever else and make a ruckus... use the firepit, hog the beach... damn the neighbouring cottages being rentals, so I get to put up with a new rich pompous family every week because they do something that pisses off my parents and they start a fight with the cottagers all summer. Oh I can't wait... it's not that far a way. Tolerance people.

Insects... first come the blackflies, then the deerflies, then the mosquitoes... I don't go outside much, they'll eat you alive. Mosquitoes I still think should be a bird of distinction up here.

PROS...

Almost total isolation... for most of the year anyways... short of family at the cottage I get a lot of alone time...

It's by Water... having AS, it's serene to look out the window and see the lake all the time. If I get up the courage to leave paddling around the lake in the canoe it's very rewarding. It's sheltered and kinda small so no big waves.

Lots of wild fruit... the lake perimeter is coated in blackberry, and blueberry bushes. I do a lot of baking with them. This is the most likely time to find me out in the canoe in late August, September.

Wildlife... I know this was a con... but it's also a plus, the loons, ducks, and deer are cute, and the water otter that plays with the dogs as it scoots about in the bay is a riot. Wait... the deer are a problem they eat all the flowers. I'm surprised the crocuses still have blooms. Oh, so beautiful. So they're a pro right now because they haven't done anything that makes them a con, yet.

Lack of light polution... gorgeous star filled skies. The occassional glimpse of the northern lights and counting satellites. Some nights you could almost reach out and touch the milky way. I am, however, envious of people who live in Utah... the stretches of road on highway 70 through the desert to highway 15 had the most vivid night skies I've ever seen.

Bonfires... I like fire... especially a fire at night, on the beach, by the lake under the stars...

Overall...

If I owned the place...had the money to sustain it... it'd be perfect...

but since I don't... it's beautiful place to visit, it's a crappy place to live.

It does have it's moments for great and grand beauty. Best show I ever saw was probably back in '99, there was a gentle rain in the summer with several broken cloud formations making 3 distinct and very visible rainbows over the lake from the vantage point I had in the canoe. It is still to this day probably the coolest thing I've ever seen. The clouds were dark and ominous. Never seen anything like before that, and nothing since. Don't think I ever will again. Definitely one of those moments you wish you had a camera... oh, well...

That's I think a shot of treasure island. Not sure who posted it though. Possible from the camp. It's fall, but that pretty well the type of view I get, and how calm the water is most of the time. It is very peaceful.

Onebravegirl... Toronto, eh... Especially Union Station and downtown, there's sooooo many people. It's very daunting. I use a lot of public transportation. Sorry for the Toronto bash earlier... didn't mean to offend you. :D

Vandel,
My most terrible abuse occurred in Calgary. I hate Calgary. Doesn't matter how many Rodeos they have, I still hate it. You are entitled to hate the GTA all you want. BUT maybe you can hate it a little less knowing that onebravegirl is there and she'd never hurt you...

No. I've almost always hated living in Arizona. I've first came here 16yrs ago and have lived here 14 1/2yrs.
I've never been in a good position to move because I am dependent and my family is here. Not dependent in the sense where I need constant company, but I've never enjoyed driving and sometimes I do want to have company- my mom who I want to always be there.

If I could live where I want it might be near FL. I love the country and the green scenery. I feel comfortable in communities where people have acreage or there are not close neighbors if any. The city is too cramped for me, I like playing loud music at night when I'm up. I like having pets. I like walking in places not made of cement.

I do hope to move next year- it would be about time. I was going to a couple of years ago, but I decided to go to community college here, which made my mom happy. I guess it is a good thing I put it off considering the circumstances.
Nothing appropriate comes to mind.

No, California's full of emo kids and sex offenders. We get somewhere near five alerts about pedophiles trying to shove students into their cars a week. It's hot also.
