An Open Space

Forget about mental illness for a while and just let loose in here.

Oooh, that sounds like fun. I do odd things like that, you know, where you start doing something a lot for no real reason. Sometimes intentional, sometimes not. People still get annoyed that I say "Good morning" regardless of the time.

Thinking of luck just brings up a lot of annoying, somewhat philosophical thoughts I keep having.
And there are too many possibilities.

Care to elaborate, 1234321?

That does sound fun, Hammer. :D

I dunno...I usually think that "luck" is a term humans use to explain a random, serendipitous sequence of events. LOL I can even see it in terms of eating. "Good luck! (I hope that you somehow find a diamond in your loaf of bread, and that you manage to not chip a tooth on it in the process.)"

Just the basic "Does luck exist? Do people create their own luck? Is there such a thing as bad luck?" This stuff just pisses me off, man. All of it, really. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm really, really sick of all these stupid subjective opinions everyone has all the time that they base their whole goddamn life off. Yes, I know people need to define their damn world, but maybe I don't need to have these stupid opinions forced down my throat every motherf'ing second of every day, for Christ's sake. These walls don't exist! They're all in your f'ing head! Do people know this, or are they really just ignorant? I wonder this. I would like to know. I mean, it's cool to give yourself some sense of reality, but you have to at least REALIZE that they're just opinions. You have NO PROOF. Don't take every goddamn thing so seriously ALL THE F'ING TIME. It's NOT REASONABLE. I do it too, though. I do, sometimes. But I know it might not be real. I see that FACT; you can't know if anything is DEFINITE. There are too many subjective opinions floating around for anything to be certain. Actually... give me something that EVERYONE has the SAME opinion about, and I will admit, that thing is a certainty, no doubt about it. And I don't mean comparing two equal subjective concepts. That's just ridiculous and has nothing to do with my point. Go on; I dare you, anyone who reads this thread... 'though there appears to be very few, from the replies we're getting...

And that's what you get for asking. Hahahaha... ha.

On a lighter note, I had some very nice bread today, and a haircut. Oh, and a lot of procrastination! Yay!

P.S. I don't have any problem with hearing what people feel about different things, obviously; I just get sick of people being so caught up in their stupid, imaginary ideas that they let it control everything about their life, like it's a solid brick wall in their path when really, it's simply a matter of mind over matter. Doesn't mean it's easy to get past, but you should at least KNOW that it may well be IMAGINED. Some are real, most likely, but very many of them are NOT, and you have no way of knowing which ones are, so why lie to yourself and say they ALL are, when you should KNOW this is very well NOT true? Ah, am I even making sense now? It makes sense in my head. Oh well. Blah, blah... That's my edit-note, just to let you know I like your thoughts so please don't be offended! *love*

I can totally understand and identify with your frustration over people's adherence to "palatable explanations and frameworks of existence." Like religion, astrology, social norms, etc. I get extremely pissy at times when people can't see past the tiny bubble in which they grew up.

Of course, I also recognize that I'm a hypocrite of sorts, because my own point of view also has its share of roadblocks. I choose to set up beliefs for myself that explain my existence and help me continue it.

To a certain extent, I believe in "luck" and karma--maybe only as an effect of paying it forward. You spread enough good will and it's gonna come back to you. You affect people with your actions, they affect others...inevitably, some of it comes back to you. That's how you "make your own luck".

There's an old Russian saying, "Nadaysa na Boga, no sum ne ploshai." Its literally translates to "Place hope in God, but don't slack off."

That's probably where my beliefs of "no one can help you but yourself" and "you can't help someone unless they want to help themselves" originate, even before I heard those words actually spoken. I place responsibility for my recovery both on myself (to do the work/research) and on my therapist(s) to show me how.
