Okay dude, yeh, you just went a bit too far there! Don't take this the wrong way, but it's that much detail in computer science which is to blame for me leaving my computer science degree all of 5 yeas ago now. I just like to 'skim' the surface, and not go too far into it. I've heard of all the terms you've used here - samba, DHCP, LDAP, etc - but I don't wanna know too much about them all the same. Xeon are reputable serves though, right?

LOL, Sorry mate. I can't stop myself sometimes. You know that thing about Aspies pouring out information on their thing until the other person either falls asleep, walks away or dies of boredom?

Well, Xeons are the processors, Supermicro is the server make. I'd rather run HP but our budget really is that bad. Like I said though, through clever design, we seem to make 5 year old hardware and free software work in a way that outstrips people with far higher budgets. Don't worry, I'll control myself if you ask another question.

lol...dont worry about it my man. My main interest in life is microbiology, and I could go on for page upon page about it. (do you want me to?!). Here's a sampler: Did you know that the weight of all the bacteria in the world far exceeds the weight of all of the animals? Also, did you know that half of the weight of your faeces is bacteria? There are billions of them growing inside your large intestine right now, feeding off you poo.

I'm just a science freak generally. I find the things you state above really interesting, seriously. It seems odd for someone who came crashing out of the "education" system in a ball of flames to just love learning new stuff but what can I say. Trouble is, there aren't enough hours in the day to soak all of this stuff up and my head feels full as it is. I'm sure that for every new thing that goes in, an old one falls out. :)

I came crashing out of the educational system at first too, but that allowed me to rethink about what my main interests were. However, if you aren't in any one particular course, then you have time to study various areas in your own time, and that's why the high general interest in everything is there.

I think you're right there. My faith in teachers died when one of them told me I was stupid for suggesting something when answering a question. The problem was she wasn't teaching her own subject and I knew I was right. After that I refused to accept anything I was told without cross checking it first in a book or other reputable source. In the end I just went to the books and cut out the middle man.

Everything I know that has been useful to me has been self taught.

hehe, you cross-check things too? Yeh, that's what I do because I've found that a surprising amount of what I've been taught in school/college is wrong. I remember some teachers in school who would try to impose their own religious views onto you too, or their views on issues such as abortion. That's not fair really. I remember also my maths teacher from two years ago in college would always look at me after he wrote a sum on the board to double-check with me that he was right. All I did was nod my head at him to say 'yes, it's right', and then he'd get on with it.

I think that primary school teachers and some of high school teachers are the scum of the Earth for trying to brainwash their defenceless subjects into believing their far-fetched religious beliefs and such. I can't believe the #######4 I was fed when I was young.

Oh yeah, It takes months or years to get respect and 2 seconds to pee it down the drain which is exactly what she did that day. I mean being reasonable, no human being can be expected to know everything on a subject but calling a kid stupid will never help, particularly one who takes everything said as meant literally. What she should have done is said "If you're that sure, see if you can bring any evidence to the next lesson to back up your claim".

I must admit to having been a bible basher when I was little but that was down to parents sending me to Sunday school. Looking back it was brainwashing but the break came when I started analysing bible passages and found too many contradictions for the story to hold up. Luckily, in the UK outside of religious studies classes teachers aren't allowed to bring religion or politics into the room and even in RS it's some mish-mash of multi-cultural stuff as we don't want to offend anyone do we.....

Reading my reply now I think I was pretty harsh on the schoolteachers, but that comes from bad experiences. In primary school I was persecuted by the teachers because I was quiet but defiant.
