how do you take your mind off your problems?

Forget about mental illness for a while and just let loose in here.

Something 'serious'? Hmm, I know what you mean by that. It's like you want to make a contribution to life - a big one? You don't want to live like everyone else because that seems boring, right?

No, not really, by "serious" I just mean something other than lounging around. Like a job, some sort of project, or to continue my broken-off PhD. Something that would make me a "contributing member of society", I guess, or at the very least a hobby that would make me say that I actually "did" something that day.

Well, why don't you do it then? You don't have to sit around doing 'nothing' all day. You can go out there and look for things to do, even voluteering somewhere. It would look good on your resume/CV and it could create connections that could lead you to places you've never even dreamed of.

I guess that's the magic of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia - you want to do things, but it's very difficult to do them and when you finally get motivated you don't really enjoy doing them anyway, so it's back to just sitting around.

I do word puzzles called "Fill-it-ins" .

The puzzles are like backward crosswords, you are given the list of words, and you have to make them fit.

thanks for the compliments. i haven't been here for a while. i was actually in the psych ward.

diagnosis: psychosis, unstable mood, paranoid schizophrenia, substance & alcohol abuse

in-patient time: 3 days
reason: proficiency with deceit

current meds: alprazolam .5/3 day, trazadone 50mg/1 day, wellbutrin 200mg/1 day, trilophon 2mg/2 day

i don't dance in public. still plagued by social anxiety. developing agoraphobia. and all the girls i date either cheat on me or have too many problems of their own without me. these days i just can't escape enough. the drugs don't work. :|
