Religious topics?

Postby S3 » Thu Feb 19, 2009 7:00 pm

If we want to discuss religion in an off-topic sort of way here, why can't we? There are far more controversial things, right? No one is forced to participate if they don't want to. I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed somewhere.

I understand your question. But just the first quote seemed to be leading into a bad conversation. If you want to have religious discussion, you can always do it by e-mail, or private message.

It isn't really religion in general, it's just that people get nasty really fast. And it seemd that that was already starting. I apologize if I was mistaken, it just seemed like a negitive conversation starting. Where did that quote come from anyway?

although i disagree with locking the gotsin? thread, i also understand.
i don't argue about spiritual issues (i mostly don't argue about anything..), nor do i get offended when offered different views however, it's true, many do.
my position here is mostly in the same respect as i sit with television, radio, all other free speech/action media..... if it's not your cup of tea, don't drink it. but again, many don't possess that type of self-control.
i don't mind using email or pm, but i did feel the need to say this much.

grateful for the forum. restrictions and all.

S3.....i have to say you overwhelmed me with your reply on the gotsin? thread. i'll have to read that more than twice...lol. will reply by pm as soon as i form an opinion, it takes me a minute or three to change gears ... you replied with info beyond where i traveled. but i'm great today thanks for asking.

If anyone could think that you, Somuchalot, were argumentative they'd have jumped to a very swift conclusion.

I'm not argumentative by nature, though I can be pushed there when I think it serves a purpose. I typically respond with only the bare minimum to off-topic remarks like individuals arguing for atheism, etc.

That said, I guess you're both right, Asuka, and Element, about other users being irresponsible with their comments. I feel better knowing that you didn't lock the thread for other reasons I guess, though it is a bummer. I've seen a lot of very shallow threads about religion in general that never seem to hit on anything valuable. Our thread was meant to be very different than those, but thanks to that sort of pretense it's ended up not so different, I understand.

The quote at the beginning comes from the Paraphilias forum, btw.

Thanks for letting me know where the quote came from. And guys, we'll bring this up with the other mods and see if it is okay to unlock the thread. I'll admit that I'm a little quick to worry with these things because of recent issues on the forums. But i appreciate your cooperation! We'll see what we can do!

You're welcome, and thank you! If it makes any difference, I'm willing to ignore provocateurs entirely if it means opening the thread. I don't know how many other religious folk will sit back or be as cordial as we are, but, to be honest, I haven't come across many here who would engage in arguing for religion.

HI guys. It is unlocked now! :) I just want to apologize. I'm a bit tense, and I must say that I was bringing personal issues here, and that is why i asked that it be stopped. I just didn't want to see it get nasty, but you guys did nothing wrong. So I'm sorry, guys! Now go debate away!
