Pet journals

Postby Tyler » Thu Apr 02, 2020 2:18 pm

I've had this idea for a while now, so I thought I'd go through with it. This is kind of like keeping your own journal, but it's exclusively about your pets. PLEASE DO NOT POST PICTURES OF YOUR PETS, AS IT COULD BE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION, AND IS AGAINST SITE RULES

So yeah, it's morning. I have my own computer, but I'm in the birds' room, hanging with them on the laptop. The two green cheek conrues keep trying to tear the keys up, and they've succeeded more than once. Thankfully, they go right back on. There's some bird poop on the number pad that I'll get with a disinfectant wipe right now.

I cleaned it up. YAY! WOOO!

The morning is the birds' time, and the evening is the bearded dragon's time. He wakes up when I'm about to go to bed, and the birds go to bed as soon as I wake up, but get up very early in the morning. He's a chonker. A heckin chonk! But he's a sweetheart. He's rambunctious. He likes to climb the curtains, which is a no-no, but that doesn't stop him from trying.

I'm sitting in the oddest position with the laptop, trying to keep the birds off it, but they're not giving up. The green cheek conures both have vicious bites. The most vicious out of my whole flock. They're not Macaw level vicious, but they can still make you bleed.

The two budgies are walking around on the carpet, having fun with one another. The blue budgie is the runt of the group, but he's also the leader. All the other birds respect him, and when there's a spat, he gets in between them. He issued a showdown to the male conure, and the male conure backed down. Granted, when he did the same thing to the female conure, she didn't back down, and I had to separate them.

Then there's the lovebird. Sweet, sweet lovebird. He's just relaxing. Yes yes.

My cat just woke up, screamed and started hissing. Must have been dreaming about something. Maybe Mitch McConnell naked.

So, I got the beardie out, and he carried on and did his stuff. He attempted to jump from the end table to the TV tray table thing, and he fell right on the floor, like a goober. I picked him up, and put him on the TV tray. I then gave him his salad of kale, carrot slices and a three blueberries. He sometimes eats the blueberries, but not always, and he did not eat them tonight. Yes yes.

Sometimes, he runs around, all over the house, but today, he just sat on me, and relaxed. I was waiting for him to poop on me, but he didn't, thankfully. Reptiles are cold blooded, which means their poop is ice cold, and it's weird feeling and absolutely reeks. After a couple hours though, he went back into his 75 gallon tank, and I turned his light and heat lamp off, and he went to sleep. Yes yes.

Re: Pet journals

So, yesterday's entry, the two conures were trying to bite the keys of my laptop keyboard. This happened suddenly. They used to like to bite the lid/screen, but they suddenly decided that the keys were funner to bite. This started a day or two ago.

Today, however, three of the other four noticed they were doing it and they too thought it looked fun. I had both conures, the cockatiel, the smaller of the two budgies, and the lovebird on the laptop, trying to destroy it. It was a real team effort, but when I grabbed my cellphone to take a picture, they scattered.

I then decided it was time for a millet party. I have a five pound box of millet sticks, which has hundreds upon hundreds of millet sticks in it, and I give them three at a time, once a week, usually. It's a healthy snack for them, and I supervise them as they eat, so they don't try to get aggressive over them, and they almost never do. This time was no different. They all enjoyed it.

Then came cleaning time, oh boy! Birds are the most fragile pets you can own, outside of maybe fish. How do I clean up fresh bird poop? Paper towels. How do I clean up dried bird poop? Paper towels and water. You can't use anything that has a scent in it, because it could kill them. Thankfully, bird poop is odorless, because air freshener can kill them. Deodorant and hair spray can kill them. So much can make them ill and kill them, but they will no show signs until it's too late. There are two reasons for this. The first is because in the wild, their flock will abandon them at the first sign of it, and two, while also in the wild, it's a sign of weakness for predators. Birds are natural prey, and that's why you can't bring a bird home and expect it to love and trust you immediately. Cats and Dogs you can. Cats are predators, and dogs are too, but birds don't hunt anything, and they think you're putting them in a cage because you're going to eat them later down the road.

Yes yes.

But yeah, cleaned up some dried bird poop on the bottom of the cages, ran the vacuum, did that sort of stuff. The birds don't fly away, but they do scream loudly during it. You can tell they don't like it, but it was short and sweet, and now they're back to being themselves

I don't own any animals but there are lots of cats, foxes, birds and squirrels that live, play and hunt in the grounds of my residence.
