Zopiclone

Postby j.r. » Tue Sep 21, 2010 7:56 am

Hi there.

Has anyone here tried Zopiclone?

If so, what happened when you stopped taking it?

I've been prescried it to help me sleep and just a bit worried about it, I deliberately said I didn't want benzodiazepines as I know you can get hooked and feel rubbish all day and he gave me this stuff.

Its got me to sleep ;) just hope it all isn't worse when I stop taking it.

Any answers really appreciated. thanks. x

Hi Janine,

I'm sorry this post is a good while after you posted initially, but I've not been on this site all that long.

I've also been prescribed zopiclone for my insomnia and I was worried about the warnings of addiction to it so asked my doctor about it when I was given them. She told me to take them for two or three nights when it was necessary, in order to get my sleeping patterns back to normal, then to stop taking them. The idea for me was to re-set my sleep cycle which gets completely out of whack when my insomnia persists. She also said that taking it for one night would be less effective then 2 or 3 as I needed to ensure that the sleeping pattern got re-established, rather than simply knocking myself out. I do feel a little drowsy the next day sometimes, and I get a strange taste that I don't like in my mouth too. I've not however had any problems with addiction or related side effects because I've stuck to the way it was suggested I take them.

This may not be what you're looking for as your insomnia may not follow the same pattern as mine, but I hope it provides some idea.

I have read that the first few nights after stopping the medication you may have trouble sleeping. If the problem continues, you should tell your doctor. Also, this medication is usually meant to be taken short term, usually up to 4 weeks. If taken longer you will develop a tolerance to it.
