Reason for insomnia?

Postby -Valkyrie- » Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:46 pm

Hi, i\'m new, and was wondering if you could help. I have been fluctuating between sleeping too much to sleeping too little. Any thoughts?

What's your caffeine intake? Is it about the same amount, at the same time each day?
Do not take my advice before talking to your doctor/counselor/other professional. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find free, confidential care. Most importantly, sometimes your shrink can be wrong. Get a second opinion.

I drink about 3 cups of coffee a day, with 5-6 cans of soda on average. Coke mainly which has 34m/g of caffeine and coffee is way up there. I have an obsession over caffeine, or any drink with it. So, i was curious to know.

Eh, could be the caffeine, but since you're saying you drink about the same amount of caffeine per day--at about the same time--then I don't know. My fiance drinks coffee all day, usually finishing his last cup right before he goes to bed. His body is so used to it, though, that it really doesn't matter. He doesn't have any sleeping problems.

Not sure what's going on with you. Since I'm not a sleep specialist, the best thing I can do is point you to a few links.

OK, way too many links...

Try Googling "irregular sleep patterns", "irregular sleep cycle", "irregular sleep schedule" and "irregular sleep-wake syndrome" without quotes. You'll probably be able to find more useful information that way than by trying to tell me what's going on and me filtering search engine stuff back to you.

excess noradrenergic function from drinking too much caffeine can worsen insomnia, did it for me.

I am totally agree with you monk as it is important to lower the consumption of so much caffeine, it will definitely worsen insomnia, it is very important to avoid all such stuffs that can give rise to insomnia.

There may be several other reasons for insomnia, like stress, mental disorders, intake of high drugs and any panic injury that will cause breakage in your sleep.

Thanks
