How to get back the biological clock?

Postby Ahmed64 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 11:25 pm

Hello. I have a really important question-I hope someone has some experience/knowledge with this.
For about three weeks I had taken Luvox CR and Lexapro before bedtime and this made me develop insomnia over several weeks. Now I have started taking those meds in the mornings and my sleep has gotten a bit better. But I am still very tired in the mornings at work-I literally fall asleep at work several times a day, and I wake up almost immediately...but I'm always sleepy at work and don't know what to do. Today, again I went home early because I was too tired. Does anyone have any methods/tips they used to get their sleep back to normal? I've tried drinking hot milk, going to bed early, but still I have issues. I take Seroquel 25mg at bedtime just for sleep (I'm not schizophrenic) and it does help, but in the mornings I'm a zombie. The same thing happens when I take benadryl 50mg before going to bed; I feel sedated yes,but still in the mornings I cannot function and am overly tired and sleepy.
When should sleep get back to normal? ANd should i just not take anything? I've tried this before and I'd stay up until 2 am or so...so what should I do?
During the past 2 weeks my sleep has somewhat returned as I've said, I can sleep around 3-4 hours a night without meds more with meds, whereas before I was able to do like 90 minutes of sleep a night-it was horrible.
I tried not taking naps after I come back from work, but that didn't seem to help-I'd just be even more tired because I need that afternoon nap.
Does anyone know of any way I can speed up my sleep pattern going back to normal?
Thanks.

Hello again Ahmed,

You should talk to your doctor first before you stop taking the medication. If you suddenly stop taking it, then you will probably do more harm than good. You have had this sleeping problem for a long time now. It might be related to your medication but, again, you should talk to your doctor before you stop taking it.

Other tips include:
    - Don't eat before you go to bed
    - Go to bed at the same time every night
    - Sleep in the 'foetal' position
    - Ensure that your bed is warm and comfortable
