Hello. This is my first time posting here. I'm 35, and I've suffered from sleep troubles for over 1 year now. I'm a midwife, and I work 24 hour shifts, although I'm not sure if that's the main cause of my problem (obviously affects my circadian rhythm, I'm aware of that) because I've been in my current job for 10 years, and never had this issue before (I could easily sleep 9 hours every night)
Like 3 years ago I started taking sleeping pills (benzodiazepines) in order to fall asleep early and easily the night before my work shift (which means once every 5 days), but although it helped in the begining, I eventually started to notice that I was waking up in the middle of the night, every night. So, 2 months ago I quit, and I replaced them for Gabapentin and Doxylamine (antihistamine), just the night before being on duty. Needless to say the first week was a nightmare, I barely was able to sleep but it progressively improved till the point that I could sleep for 6 hours in a row.
However, I was told that acupuncture could significantly improve my sleep so I decided to try and arranged an appointment because, well, in the worst scenario it wouldn't make any difference, or that's what I thought. Well, I was wrong.
Even though I felt quite relaxed after the sessions, I noticed that I was unable to sleep at night. I took 3 sessions during 2 weeks, but it went worse and worse, so I called the practitioner and cancelled the next appoinment. That was 6 days ago, and I'm still completely unable to sleep without taking medication (Gabapentin and Doxylamine). I feel drowsy and tired at night but my body won't fall asleep, I simply don't fall asleep. Idon't know why. I let my practitioner know but I'm still waiting for a reply, and besides I'm so afraid of taking another session.
Is there anyone who experienced a similar situation?? Anyone who knows how to reverse the effects of the acupuncture?? Anyone who knows how long I may stay this way??
Thank you
