What do you do when you aren't sleeping at night?

There are certain nights when I know I'm not going to be able to fall asleep easily, and I need to do something other than lay in bed tossing and turning.

Here are some of the things I will do when I can't sleep:

- Read a book
- Listen to an audiobook
- Listen to a guided meditation or self-hypnosis mp3
- Go for a short walk(I'm in a very quiet/safe neighborhood)
- Take a shower, brush my teeth, cut my nails, general hygenic stuff
- Clean
- Reorganize my closet/office/pantry
- Prepare breakfast for the following morning
- Write down what I want to do tomorrow and leave it for tomorrow
- Write in my gratitude journal

What activities do you do when you aren't able to sleep?

These are all positive things I've learned to do in my insomnia therapy (as long as they're not in bed!)
Unfortunately I'm my own worst enemy and have trouble following this advice. I'm always so medicated on sleeping pills I feel like I don't have a lot of options to "get up and do things." The most I do is switch rooms. Spare bedroom, couch. Maybe play a computer game if I'm mentally aware enough to. I often eat :/

Past - depression (major and dysthymia)

I find that doing boring things helps: cleaning, doing the dishes, word puzzles. I avoid the internet and TV, they are more fun but they do not really help.
