What do you do when you can't sleep?

Just wondering, what do you guys do when you're up at, say, 2 AM unable to sleep?

I mostly do crafting stuff, or try to read, or watch YouTube videos
Experience with self injury, depression, blah blah blah. Just here to try to help, and possibly be helped at some point. Thanks.

I listen to music and play little games that are easy on my ipod. Better question, what do you do at 5A.M? Cause on really bad mornings I get to watch my room light up as the sun comes up...What probably makes it worse is I set my alarm for 9am. But yeah, mostly it's listen to music, although early in the morning I'm usually maladaptive daydreaming *sigh*, oh well.

Usually I just lay there and take it but last night I did something out of ordinary and I am regretting this morning, almost like waking up from a drunk night and recalling something. I decided to email this girl I once knew a long time ago and asked her if "she wanted to exchange sexy pics". This is very much unlike me but I did it out of frustration, boredom, etc. I then wake up to her reply calling me ugly as ###$ and I am a joke. I'm really not a bad looking person and I was shocked by both what I did and her response.

Honestly.. eat a little (try not to eat during the day - night eating disorder too - prepare meals ahead of time) go online to pinterest and look at pretty pictures. quit facebook, so no real social media. Like you I lay there and take it. Sometimes I will load up on 2 otc and 8mg of Klonopin. (what my psych told me to do) but that only buys me like 2 hours. I hate using my anxiety emergency medication for a measly few hours of sleep. I have another method once I havent slept for a few days and become a zombie and start hallucinating, but I dont want to tell, because it might be a trigger (not illegal)

Just lay there really, I have a stressball which also helps and a good distraction.

I have to use my mind to create. My sewing machine is usually where I go. It keeps my hands and my mind occupied and calms me down. Not that I sew perfect in the wee hours. Ive recently sewn my pockets to my sides in shorts. I love making cool shorts ; )

Generally have been playing video games (xbox), watching TV and eating. The former is definitely not advised as its so addictive and stimulating that you'll end up not going to bed at all! Recently, I've made an effort not to play these games or watch TV after 9pm and just read or do some algebra (yes I love solving equations!). I've notice some improvement :)

Try reading, listening to music, drawing, etc. Just avoid overanalysing things.

I find sleeping extremely hard when I'm alone, I'm having that feeling of being way too comfortable with my room that it's become uncomfortable and it makes sleeping very hard - I toss and turn and my bed frame makes noises.. It's awful. I also scare myself when sleeping alone, so I keep myself up. Any external noises I hear I tense up and sweat!

Just try relaxing, reading, etc.

exercise daily, don't force sleep, try to maintain a regular sleep schedule, avoid caffeine at night, do not smoke, do not go to bed hungry, make sure the environment is comfortable
