Hope is important to recovery

Postby thatrez » Fri Apr 02, 2010 2:56 pm

with hope, all things are possible
I have been in deep dark places, but the hope my friends and family have given me caused me to have hope in myself. Hope is a very powerful thing. If my support system didn't believe in me and have hope during my bad times, I wouldn't be who I am today. Now I have a great job, I take my meds, and I have great friends.

Never give up hope
That's all I have to say

That is simple but effective. There's a calmness about your post too, which I like. Ultimately, all of us who are in dire straits here must put our heads down, get on with our work, and take our meds each day. The meds issue is a big one... ...I think the less focus you place on them, the better. People seem to sit around waiting for their med to work, but if you do that then you'll not notice anything and may instead become worse because you think it's not working. Just put your head down and get into the habit of taking it every day, and the rest should be history.

Without hope what else is there? Whats the alternative? Not much. I am a firm believer that Hope is the hugest part of recovery.
Well said Thatrez.

Hope is often defined as a feeling that what is desired, will happen; it is a desire accompanied by expectation. Hope can encourage one into wishful thinking and provide optimism. It is based on a reality, that although life comes with its challenges, suffering, and struggle, we still have a sense that our lives are important and have an ultimate purpose beyond the current painful experiences we face. Without hope we have nothing. People can live without a lot of things but no one can live without hope.
