I have of coutse been in a similar situation, and on both sides of the coin too. When I was much younger, there was a girl who'd always inspire me to never care what others thought of me (I always seemed to worry about others looking at me, judging me, etc), and I still speak to her today. On the other side of the coin, through my work here, I have met many people that I have helped. Some I am no longer in contact with but, as it stands, I am taking in private to quite a few people. One is a guy going through relationship issues, another is a girl going through the same; and another is a person with a gender identity issue who I have helped so much that I have to pinch myself to believe.

You can be the helper too, PIPsqueak240 - i.e. you can be aperson to help others who have been in your position and who need help and advice.

Although it's a good thing that you found someone you can really depend on when it comes to your problems, I still think that you should be able to develop a sense of independence from that person. You need to grow apart from her at some point, because as you are realizing now, she can't always be there for you now that you're going to attend a university. Learn to stand on your own. It's okay to occasionally seek advice or comfort from other people, but learn to be there for yourself as well. Just my opinion, though.
If you want to be happy, BE.
