My 80 yr old Aunt donated a kidney to her bro about 10 yrs ago. Well, now the kidney she has left is working at less than 18% capacity. Her Dr wants her to go on the transplant list but she feels just fine and has no desire to take an organ that someone younger then she may need. She feels life owes her nothing at this point and is happy.
Anyway my mother called her this wk and asked her flat out whats going on with her health. You see, Aunt Hilda, unlike mother dearest never bitches about anything. Hilda told her about her kidney functions and how she wont go for a transplant so mother flips out and I quote "What do you mean you won't get a transplant. What am I going to do if something happens to you? You're the only one I have, you can't do this to me"
Needless to say, she left Aunt Hilda "stunned stupid"

the response of your mother is text book narcissistic.

What happens to "me" is their only thought and concern.

Sorry to hear of your Aunt, she sounds a wonderful lady.

Sorry to here about your mom's behavior.

I agree with lynn: NPD or borderline. Still, this is a high-stress situation for her. Does she exhibit a similar patter of behavior in other situations?

Your Aunt sounds like a very wonderful person.

Always...in every waking moment of her life! High stress for mother?? She didn't speak to my Aunt for almost 40yr and now Hilda can't be sick because of Claire?????

Again, text book narcissistic, constantly creating a life evolved around low-level conflict and stress, sometimes peaking to high-level. Always gotta be a drama....

Incredibly draining (if you let it.... )

1200 miles helps, the other side of the world can be beneficial too.

Good for you!

Drama is more characteristic of BPD and HPD than NPD.

sum1 - whatever....

Depends upon to an extent what one terms as a 'drama'. My NPD thrives on them. I probably have a low tolerance of drama.

You've often described him as being rather apathetic, having no
social life, just watching TV, etc., which isn't what I'd consider
dramatic.
