.....and why this disorder is not going anywhere soon! I have not been here in a long, long, long time because I have moved on with life and worked on why I would let someone like these people in my life. However, when I would be bored I would look at common everyday people and really started watching different things about WHY people do what they do.

I started to realize that there is alot of histrionics in this world even on something as simple as winning a pair of shoes on the Oprah Winfrey show, people crying when they get the first I Phone or just winning a prize off of prices right. I started to dive into why society is starting to display histrionics in a wide specrum of actions where almost everyone sees it, but excepts it. I ended up in a place that is different to even think about, about government needs people with histrionics because it makes whatever is going on more hysterical, emotional and good for tv.....which is the most useful tool a goverment uses!!!

Watch this video and see if you can tell why this disorder is so useful with government propaganda:

All of Americas reality is being distorted and twisted to the core of who we are in the hope that we stay off track and busy doing nothing worth while which is just what these people that have this disorder provide society, a huge waste of time because in the end it means nothing.
Why did I never walk away
Why I played myself this way
Now I see
Testing me, pushes me away
Linkin Park "Pushing Me Away"

I think it's more like the factual, measurable increase in narcissism in western society that came first. In the US it all started at the end of WWII, when primary production began to shift from agriculture towards modern manufacturing, away from urban industrial centers. The suburbs were created and leisure time and boredom greatly increased. Fads, those brief ephermal social movements diverting from from the existential emptiness of the modern and post-modern suburbs, greatly increased. The hula-hoop, the skateboard, and the bikini, etc. (heh, the bikini can stay). The older pioneer quasi-religous work ethic disapproved of waste and vanity, so in order to prime people to buy into the marketing and to sell all the cars and tires and cosmetics, clothing, electric guitars, and all the other stuff - and to sell the media itself - the older work ethic had to be demonized and apparently done away with. But not entirely, since like Marx said, everything meets it's own destruction within itself...which explains why postmodern popular liberalism, while claiming to wanting to permanently do away with conservatism, actually anticipates - needs - it's next move. Or else people will get too bored, and collapse into absurd failures...just like the conservatives need some new sloppy excessive liberal failure to pump new juice into their traditional model. But I don't think that any of this is an intentional conspiracy by "the Illuminati." Life is more like a big chaotic accident. Maybe it's how we cope and deal with that vast awesome nothingness that is the ultimate measurement of our personal mental health?

And all that awesome boredom also explains the attempt to touch and feel reality in concerts, raves, the military, and all the other tribal replications of youth.

We are all narcissistic and always have been, but, it was this shift in primary production and the exploitation of the new niches by the 'trendy industries' that really cooked it off.

So in my opinion it's really latent narcissistic traits that are more useful in configuring and steering that useless, quivering helpless mass (ha ha hopefully I'm not over-interpreting you?) that often is post-modern pop culture. According to their suggestibility, gullibility and need to confirm themselves through attention, histrionics merely follow all of that, although if they are high functioning enough they may mature into narcissistic icons and leaders of a sort (=Marilyn Monroe).

Good propaganda flick though, if only for provoking the analysis.
Be tolerant of others, but true to yourself. In supporting you, I try to offer common sense. PM me if you need to.

While I don't personally believe we've gotten to where we are as a result of conspiracies or planning on anyone's part, I have commented in other threads that I can see the significant influence movies/tv have had on our culture.

Okay, so last week...

Thousands of officers and analysts worked together to find and apprehend two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. Some of the officers were really shot at and really hurt. Most of those involved make an average person's salary. That's the reality of what happened.

Now contrast that with how the story would have gone down in a movie. There would be one super cop who'd figure it all out on his/her own, apprehend the suspects, probably get it all done in a spectacular battle yet still walk away without a scratch.

I do think most people can differentiate between fiction and reality, but it's not purely black/white. Fiction can still have an influence on our expectations, about how we feel about ourselves, and about our sense of what our lives 'should' be like, about who we should admire and strive to be like and want to be around. See the rest of the reality is that person in the movie may make several real millions of dollars, be famous, adored for the persona's they play, even though there were never at any real risk or never really did anything but act.

Acting, drama, histrionics are highly valued in our culture. Those who actually do things, including some very dangerous/high-stress jobs in our society, are often unknown and poorly paid. It wouldn't really be a big surprise to me then to learn that there has been an increase in histrionic behavior in our culture.
