Argh invited to party and have to go :(

Postby moomin » Sun Sep 18, 2011 1:44 pm

Hi
We've been invited to a close friend's 25th anniversary party and we HAVE to go. No ifs and buts about it. Hubby who's aspie is dreading it. I wasn't too bothered, and was actually looking forward but anxiety has set in, and I'm stressing so much about it it's unreal. Our friend is Indian, so they are a different culture and I'm stressing about whether we may be inappropriate or offensive with our choice of clothing or presents etc. That is my focus of anxiety at the moment and I'm scouring any article to see if I'm doing the right thing, it's driving me nuts. Is there anyone out there who is north Indian and can tell me if there is any etiquette to something like this? I'm not even thinking about the actual party with all the people there I don't know or I may completely lose it altogether...

Hi, moomin! I know a couple of people from India. I doubt you'll do anything inappropriate and besides your friend is probably familiar with your culture and so's his family, their culture is modern and not too different from the west.

Thanks jasmin, It's okay I have BPD and sometimes I have self-doubts and think I'm going insane. I was going to wear a salwar kameez, because I was afraid I may show too much flesh with normal evening wear, but people have said that me wearing an Indian outfit is offensive to them.

But I've clarified with my friend, and he says no gifts, which takes care of the gift problem, and another friend has said that wearing a salwar kameez is inoffensive, and they'd love the fact that I've put the effort in to wear one, so that takes care of problem 2. Now, I just have to face the actual dang party this Saturday! I've already been told that I'm not to drink excessively mumble grumble grumble
